The Basque Premier, Iñigo Urkullu, will resume his international agenda after more than two years without traveling abroad due to the pandemic, with the official visit he will make at the end of May to Corsica. On this occasion he will be accompanied by the Secretary General for External Action, Marian Elorza, and the Director of European Affairs, Mikel Anton.
El Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu retomará la agenda internacional tras más de dos años sin realizar viajes al extranjero `por la pandemia, con la visita oficial que va a realizar a finales del mes de mayo a Córcega. En esta ocasión estará acompañado por la Secretaria General de Acción Exterior Marian Elorza, y el Director de Asuntos Europeos Mikel Anton.
PROGRAM
The official delegation will start its agenda in Ajaccio on May 30 with several meetings at the headquarters of the Corsican Collectivity. The Basque Premier will meet with the President of the Executive Council of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni, with the President of the Assembly, Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis, as well as with elected representatives with whom he will share details of the Basque Self-Government model.
In the afternoon, he will visit the Myrte and PagliaOrba renewable energy research and innovation platforms in Vignola.
The following day, Urkullu will visit the Andria Fazi school and will leave for the city of Corté where, among other things, he will visit the Museum of Corsica and the University of Corsica. The Premier will have the opportunity to exchange government experiences in terms of culture, language and heritage.
CONTEXT
The Basque Premier and the President of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni, held a telematic meeting in April 2020, in which they signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the aim that the Basque and Corsican institutions would promote the development of bilateral relations and provide a common basis for future collaborations in the following areas: economic relations, culture, diaspora or language policy.
Corsica is part of the network of strategic relations the Basque Country maintains with Flanders, Bavaria, Quebec or Jiangsu among others.

The Premier’s official trips abroad respond to the objectives set out in the Euskadi Basque Country Internationalization Framework Strategy of gaining presence abroad and creating alliances that connect the Basque Country with the world’s centers of decision-making and opportunity.

La delegación oficial iniciará su agenda en Ajaccio el 30 de mayo con varias reuniones en la sede de la Colectividad Corsa. El Lehendakari se reunirá con el presidente del Consejo ejecutivo de Córcega, Gilles Simeoni, con la presidenta de la Asamblea, Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis, así como con representantes electos con quienes compartirá detalles del modelo de Autogobierno vasco.
Por la tarde, visitará las plataformas de investigación e innovación en materia de energias renovables Myrte y PagliaOrba, en Vignola.
Al día siguiente, Iñigo Urkullu visitará la escuela Andria Fazi y partirá hacia la ciudad de Corté donde, entre otras cosas, visitará el Museo de Córcega y la Universidad de Córcega. El Lehendakari tendrá ocasión de intercambiar experiencias de gobierno en materia de cultura, lengua y patrimonio.
CONTEXTO
El Lehendakari y el presidente de Córcega, Gilles Simeoni, mantuvieron un encuentro telemático en abril de 2020, en el que suscribieron un Memorando de Cooperación con el objetivo de que las instituciones vascas y corsas impulsaran el desarrollo de las relaciones bilaterales y proporcionar una base común para futuras colaboraciones en las siguientes materias: las relaciones económicas, la cultura, la diáspora o la política lingüística .
Córcega forma parte de la red de relaciones estratégicas Euskadi mantiene con Flandes, Baviera, Quebec o Jiangsu entre otras.
