La ceremonia de las ediciones XII y XIII de los Premios Fronteras del Conocimiento ha puesto de relieve el valor de la ciencia y la cultura para afrontar los grandes desafíos globales a los que se enfrenta la humanidad más allá de la pandemia, como la emergencia medioambiental, la profunda transformación tecnológica y el riesgo de nuevas crisis económicas. El acto, celebrado en el Palacio Euskalduna de Bilbao, ha reconocido a 35 líderes mundiales en investigación científica y creación artística.
“En el origen de los Premios Fronteras está la convicción de que el conocimiento es la mejor herramienta para entender el mundo y a nosotros mismos, afrontar los grandes desafíos de nuestro tiempo y crear oportunidades para todos”, ha señalado el presidente de la Fundación BBVA, Carlos Torres Vila.
La capital de Bizkaia ha acogido por segunda vez los actos de los Premios Fronteras, después de que en 2019 la Fundación BBVA decidiera convertir Bilbao en la sede permanente de sus galardones internacionales, y de que la alerta sanitaria provocada por el Covid-19 imposibilitara su celebración en 2020. Por ello, en esta ocasión Bilbao ha acogido una ceremonia doble en la que se ha reconocido a los 35 galardonados en las últimas dos ediciones de los premios. En la ceremonia, copresidida por el presidente de la Fundación BBVA y la presidenta del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Rosa Menéndez, han intervenido el Lehendakari, Íñigo Urkullu, y el alcalde de Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto.
The ceremony of the XII and XIII editions of the Frontiers of Knowledge Awards has highlighted the value of science and culture to face the great global challenges facing humanity beyond the pandemic, such as the environmental emergency, the profound technological transformation, and the risk of new economic crises. The event, held at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, recognized 35 world leaders in scientific research and artistic creation.
“At the origin of the Frontiers Awards is the conviction that knowledge is the best tool for understanding the world and ourselves, facing the great challenges of our time and creating opportunities for all,” said the president of the BBVA Foundation, Carlos Torres Vila.
The capital of Bizkaia has hosted the Frontiers Awards events for the second time, after the BBVA Foundation decided in 2019 to make Bilbao the permanent venue for its international awards, and after the health alert caused by Covid-19 made it impossible to hold them in 2020. Therefore, on this occasion Bilbao hosted a double ceremony in which the 35 winners of the last two editions of the awards were recognized. The ceremony was co-chaired by the President of the BBVA Foundation and the President of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Rosa Menéndez, and was attended by the Lehendakari (President of the Basque Government), Íñigo Urkullu, and the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto.
