Undo Prototipos

Undo Prototypes creates encapsulated environmental sensors for smart cities

Posted on October 20, 2021November 2, 2021 by info

The company dedicated to 3D printing of plastic and metal parts has manufactured, as part of the European AMable project, functional equipment that houses environmental sensors that control in real time variables such as air quality, brightness or noise.

Pieza plastikoak eta metalikoak 3D inprimaketa bidez sortzen dituen enpresak ingurumen-sentsoreak dituzten ekipo funtzionalak fabrikatu ditu, denbora errealean airearen kalitatea, argitasuna edo zarata bezalako aldagaiak kontrolatzeko. Lan hori Europako AMable proiektuaren parte da.

The Gipuzkoan company Undo Prototipos, together with the firm Hop Ubiquitous, has created encapsulated environmental sensors for ‘smart cities’ that analyze the environmental conditions of the cities, so that they control in real time different variables such as air quality, luminosity or environmental noise. As part of the European project AMable (AdditiveManufacturABLE) within the Horizon 2020 program, the company has carried out the design, simulation, analysis and manufacture of functional equipment for housing outdoor environmental sensors.

“It is a clear example of additive manufacturing,” acknowledges Iban Muñoz Mena, commercial manager of Undo Prototipos. Those that are installed in cities to measure any type of parameters and be able to make decisions based on the information obtained “are not a large-scale manufacturing project, so traditional manufacturing methods are discarded,” he points out. And, for this reason, it is interesting to use 3D technologies. “They are very flexible when it comes to manufacturing components in small quantities, customized and as needed,” he points out.

All the plastic parts that house the electronic components and allow air flow to the different sensors are manufactured by 3D printing. Some of them are outdoors and have a treatment that makes them resistant to temperature, humidity and wear due to environmental conditions. “Many of the equipment parts, electronic supports, sensor encapsulation and complex parts have been manufactured with 3D technologies,” says Iban Muñoz.

Multiple solutions with 3D printing

The Basque firm was founded in 2009 and its activity focuses on 3D printing of plastic and metal parts from 3D files and, on the other hand, 3D scanning of physical parts to obtain a 3D CAD file or a measurement. “We offer services tailored to the customer, mainly are parts that are under development. The most innovative thing is the possibility of using these 3D printed parts as final parts,” stresses the sales manager of Undo Prototipos.

The Lasarte-based company focuses its activity on mainly industrial sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, household appliances, consumer goods, electronics, shipbuilding, foundry and art. “In addition to parts, we also make scale models of machine tools for fairs and exhibitions. And we usually scan castings that are difficult to measure otherwise because they have very complex blades and shapes, mainly for hydraulic pumps,” explains Iban Muñoz.

During these twelve years, Undo Prototipos has worked with internationally renowned companies such as Roca, ABB, Hutchinson, Gestamp, Etxe-tar, Ormazabal, Fagor, Draxton, Gureak, Indra and Ensa, among others. With a team of three people, the Basque company has made parts “for European countries, Latin America and Canada”, confirms the sales manager.

UNDO PROTOTIPOS

Horrela, denbora errealean hainbat aldagai kontrolatu daitezke, hala nola airearen kalitatea, argitasuna edo ingurumen-zarata.  AMable (AdditiveManufacturABLE) proiektu europarraren barruan, Horizon 2020 programaren parte dena, konpainiak kanpoko ingurumen-sentsoreak kokatzeko ekipo funtzionalak diseinatu, simulatu, aztertu eta fabrikatu ditu.

“Fabrikazio gehigarriaren adibide argia da”, aitortu du Iban Muñoz Menak, Undo Prototipos enpresako merkataritza-arduradunak. Hirietan instalatzen direnak, edozein parametro neurtzeko eta lortutako informazioaren arabera erabakiak hartu ahal izateko, “ez dira eskala handiko fabrikazio-proiektuak, eta, beraz, baztertu egiten dira fabrikazio-metodo tradizionalak”. Horregatik, interesgarria da 3D teknologiak erabiltzea. “Oso moldagarriak dira osagaiak kantitate txikietan, pertsonalizatuta eta behar diren heinean fabrikatzeko garaian”, nabarmendu du.

Osagai elektronikoak gordetzen dituzten eta sentsore ezberdinetaraino aire-fluxua ahalbidetzen duten plastikozko pieza guztiak 3D inprimaketaren bidez fabrikatuta daude. Horietako batzuk aire zabalean daude, eta tenperaturarekiko, hezetasunarekiko eta ingurumen-baldintzekiko higadurarekiko erresistente egiten dituen tratamendua daramate. “3D teknologiekin ekipoko pieza asko fabrikatu dira, baita elektronikako euskarriak edo sentsoreak eta pieza konplexuak kapsulatu ere”, nabarmendu du Iban Muñozek.

3D inprimaketa duten soluzio ugari

Euskal enpresa 2009an sortu zen eta bere jarduera pieza plastiko eta metalikoen 3D inprimaketan oinarritzen da, 3D fitxategietatik abiatuta. Bestalde, pieza fisikoen 3D eskaneatzean ere jarduten du, 3D CAD fitxategi bat edo neurketa bat lortzeko. “Bezeroaren neurrira egindako zerbitzuak eskaintzen ditugu, batez ere garapen prozesuan dauden piezak. Berrikuntzarik handiena 3D inprimatutako pieza horiek azken pieza gisa erabiltzeko aukera da”, Undo Prototipos enpresako merkataritza-arduradunak azpimarratu duenez.

Lasarteko enpresaren jarduera batez ere sektore industrialetan zentratzen da, hala nola automobilgintzan, aeronautikan, etxetresna elektrikoetan, kontsumo-ondasunetan, elektronikan, ontzigintzan, galdaketan edo artean. “Piezez gain, makina-erremintako maketak ere egiten ditugu azoka eta erakusketetarako. Eta, normalean, galdaketako piezak eskaneatzen ditugu, beste era batera neurtzen zailak direnak, besoak eta forma oso konplexuak dituztelako, batez ere bonba hidraulikoetarako”, zehaztu du Iban Muñozek.

Hamabi urte hauetan, Undo Prototiposek nazioartean izen handia duten hainbat enpresarekin lan egin du, hala nola  Roca,  ABB,  Hutchinson,  Gestamp,  Etxe-tar,  Ormazabal,  Fagor,  Draxton,  Gureak,  Indra eta Ensa, besteak beste. Hiru pertsonaz osatutako talde batekin, euskal enpresak piezak fabrikatu ditu “Europako edo Iberoamerikarako herrialdeetarako edo Kanadarako”, merkataritza-arduradunak baieztatu duenez.
