23 trams and spare parts supply for New Taipei City in Taiwan, 270 Solaris electric buses for Berlin’s public transport system, and two new train maintenance contracts in Brazil and New Zealand are very good news for CAF, the globally renown Basque company based in Beasain (Gipuzkoa, Basque Country).
Malaysia: Earlier this month, CAF signed a framework agreement with the renowned Malaysian construction firm Gamuda Berhad to deliver up to 23 Urbos trams. These trams are intended for use on the Xidong and Keelung lines in New Taipei, managed by the city’s Rapid Transit Systems Department. The contract also includes the provision of spare parts, depot equipment, and a driving simulator. If all options are exercised, the total value of the agreement could reach approximately €200 million.
Brazil and New Zealand: CAF has secured two new train maintenance service contracts in Brazil and New Zealand, together valued at over €100 million, under which CAF will maintain train fleets that it has previously manufactured and supplied. These contracts mark further progress in CAF’s efforts to expand its train maintenance operations. The company now manages more than 150 service contracts across 20 countries and is responsible for maintaining 11,600 railcars. This work is supported by a team of more than 4,000 employees.
Germany: Berlin’s main public transport operator, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), which runs the city’s metro, tram, bus, and ferry services, has placed a new order for Solaris (CAF’s Polish branch) electric articulated buses under the existing framework. After recently receiving the first 50 units of 18-metre Solaris electric buses, BVG has ordered an additional 270 similar vehicles. This is among the largest electric bus purchases in the company’s history, with a value over €220 million.
