Multiverse Computing, a company based in San Sebastián, has emerged as a leader in quantum software and artificial intelligence, thanks to strong institutional support from the Basque Government since its founding.
The backing of the Basque Government, combined with the company’s technological potential, has enabled Multiverse to attract both local and international investors, culminating in a recent €189 million funding round. The investment will accelerate the company’s growth and further establish the Basque Country, especially Gipuzkoa, as a European hub for advanced quantum and AI technologies.
The company’s flagship technology, CompactifAI, is a quantum-inspired tool that compresses large language models (LLMs) by up to 95% without sacrificing performance. This innovation significantly reduces the computing power and costs required to deploy AI models, making it possible to run advanced AI on a wide range of devices, from cloud servers to personal electronics. The technology has already been adopted by initial customers and is available through platforms like Amazon Web Services.
The latest funding round was led by Bullhound Capital and included major investors such as HP Tech Ventures, Forgepoint Capital, Toshiba, and several Basque investment funds. Local investors, including the Basque Government through EZTEN FCR and SEED GIPUZKOA SCR, contributed a significant portion of the funding, ensuring that a substantial share of the company remains locally owned and that investments are directed toward regional growth and job creation. Multiverse Computing now stands as Spain’s largest AI startup and is recognized among the top European companies in the sector.
Founded in 2019 at BIC Gipuzkoa—a public center fostering innovative and scientific-technological projects—Multiverse Computing exemplifies the Basque Country’s commitment to industrial transformation and digital leadership. The company’s success story is seen as a model for deeptech entrepreneurship, combining scientific excellence with business acumen and a strong sense of responsibility, and is expected to inspire further innovation and high-quality employment in the region.
