More than 30 Basque companies and organisations took part in WindEurope 2025, the benchmark fair in the wind energy sector held in Copenhagen, which brought together more than 16,000 professionals and nearly 400 exhibiting companies. The event served as a showcase to highlight the technological and industrial capacity of the Basque ecosystem in an important sector for the European energy transition.
Basque participation was well represented at the joint stand “Wind Energy Basque Country”, where 17 companies and organisations exhibited their solutions and technologies: Haizea Wind Group; Vicinay Marine; Slingsintt; Irizar; Fosroc; Hine; Erreka; Saitec; Navacel; Basque Maritime Forum, Energy Cluster – Basque Energy Cluster; Kimua; Spares in Motion; the logistics cluster association of the Port of Bilbao, Uniport; Sener; Alerion; Aeroblade; CarrRenewables; Antec Group and Glual. These firms were joined by Sumcab, a Catalan company with staff in the Basque Country, as well as three entities from the sector.
In addition, 14 other Basque companies and entities were present, including Cidetec, Ditrel Industrial, Euskalforging, the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), Galvasala, GRI Renewable Industries, HWS Towers, Nabla, Renogear, Windtechnic Engineering, Iberdrola, Ingeteam, Liftra, and Siemens Gamesa. This broad representation reinforces the role of the Basque Country as one of the most important industrial and technological centres on the European wind energy scene.
Along these lines, the event focused a large part of the agenda on the new European policies aimed at reactivating the development of the wind energy sector: streamlining the processing of permits, state support for renewable energy purchase agreements, and the promotion of bilateral auctions through Contracts for Difference (CfD). These measures aim to consolidate the EU’s objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
During the fair, Basque Trade & Investment (BasqueTrade), the SPRI Group’s agency for the internationalisation of Basque companies, played an active role in accompanying the business delegation, promoting the visibility of the region’s capabilities in international forums, and facilitating strategic contacts for the participating companies. Thanks to its work, relations were strengthened with leading companies and institutions in Asia, Europe, and America, opening up new opportunities for collaboration and business at a particularly important time for the sector.
The fair also allowed Basque companies to share their experience in innovation, sustainability, and industrialisation of the sector, positioning the Basque Country as a benchmark partner on the path towards a cleaner, more resilient, and competitive energy system. In the Basque Country, the SPRI Group has created an important network of clusters aimed at increasing the competitiveness of companies through cooperation between them and with the support of institutions and universities. This initiative has strengthened the Basque industrial fabric. The Basque clusters also have a platform for publicising their projects and initiatives.
