This state-of-the-art facility covers more than 1,000 m² and is 30 meters high, where high voltage tests can be carried out in accordance with international standards, ensuring the reliability of ARTECHE‘s products and positioning the laboratory as one of only five of its kind in Mexico
Arteche, a global leader in equipment and solutions for the electrical sector, has inaugurated a new High Voltage Impulse Laboratory at its facilities in Tepeji del Río (Mexico), consolidating its commitment to technological innovation, industrial development, and economic growth in Mexico, the State of Hidalgo, and the entire North American region.
With almost 900 employees at its facilities in Tepeji del Río, Arteche has become an industrial benchmark for the region, combining technological excellence with a strong social and economic commitment. The company has increased its capacity by 19,000 m², which includes the new laboratory and two new buildings dedicated to Power Quality and Protection and Control products, and has allocated $15 million, of which $6 million is exclusively for the impulse laboratory.
In addition to the laboratory, 18,000 m² of new production facilities have been integrated into the municipality. This represents an opportunity to further strengthen the region’s industrial and technological fabric, boosting the local innovation ecosystem, promoting the creation of skilled jobs, and developing disruptive technologies.
The inauguration comes at a strategic moment: Arteche is strengthening its presence in North America, where during the first half of 2025 it accounted for 31% of the group’s total orders and 30% of its total turnover. This strategic investment makes Tepeji del Río a center of innovation for the entire region, with cutting-edge technical capabilities to serve customers in the United States, Mexico, and Canada with international standards.
The event was attended by international customers, local authorities, and institutional representatives from the State of Hidalgo and the federal government, as well as the Corporate Management Committee and regional team, reinforcing Arteche’s relationship with the community, institutions, and local economic development.
Strategic and driving force for Mexico and North America
During the inauguration, Luis María Pérez, General Manager of Arteche, pointed out that:
“With this new laboratory, we are putting Tepeji at the center of innovation, creating a driving force for the region and consolidating our commitment to Mexico and the State of Hidalgo. Every square meter of these facilities, every piece of equipment, every test, and every connection symbolizes our commitment to excellence and technological development.”
Luis María Pérez also acknowledged the leadership of Sebastián Endraos, General Manager of Arteche North America, who, together with the entire Tepeji team, brought this project to fruition.
For his part, Sebastián Endraos said:
“I am proud to be part of the commitment of this great professional team at Tepeji in achieving this milestone for our Arteche North America plant.” He also expressed his gratitude for “the trust of those who are accompanying us on this journey: institutions, customers, suppliers, banks, universities, and training centers. Thank you for believing in our ability to provide solutions that transform the sector.”
Technological milestone
Arteche’s High Voltage Impulse Laboratory has been designed as a center of excellence for technological innovation in Mexico and the North American region. Its main objective is to simulate discharges and overvoltages to evaluate the performance of electrical equipment in extreme conditions, thus ensuring its correct operation before it is put into service. The Impulse Laboratory recreates phenomena such as atmospheric discharges similar to those produced by lightning during a storm; transient overvoltages of up to 2800 kV; and other critical conditions that can affect the electrical system.
Conducting these types of tests ensures compliance with the most stringent international standards (CSA C61869, IEC 61869, and IEEE C57.13). In this way, the laboratory has established itself as a technical benchmark in the region.
In addition to testing, the laboratory’s more than 1,000 m2 will serve as an applied research center, promoting collaboration with public, academic, and business institutions. This infrastructure will enable the development of new solutions, testing methodologies, and knowledge transfer, consolidating Tepeji del Río as an innovation hub for the electrical sector and reinforcing Arteche’s ability to offer reliable, cutting-edge products to its customers in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Thanks to this integration of technical and innovation capabilities, the laboratory not only strengthens Arteche’s operational excellence, but also drives technological development and industrial competitiveness in the region, projecting Tepeji del Río as an international benchmark in electrical innovation.
