The institution takes part in New York in the leading global forum on women’s rights and empowerment
The Basque Institute for Women, Emakunde, has participated in the United Nations’ annual meeting on gender equality and women’s empowerment, held in New York. The event brings together governments and organizations from around the world to discuss and advance policies that promote the rights of women and girls.
The Basque delegation was led by Emakunde’s director, Miren Elgarresta, who took part in several working sessions. The institution’s presence aims to strengthen the international projection of equality policies developed in the Basque Country and to share experiences with other global actors.
This year’s priority theme focuses on ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls. During the sessions, participants examined the main obstacles that still persist in this area and proposed strategies to overcome them from a global perspective.
In addition, Emakunde used the forum to build alliances with institutions and feminist organizations, as well as to exchange best practices in the field of equality. These types of meetings help promote more effective public policies through international cooperation.
Participation in this international event reinforces the Basque Government’s commitment to gender equality and its willingness to continue contributing to global progress in this area. As highlighted by the United Nations, equality remains a fundamental pillar for sustainable development and social justice.
