LASAI Sun Electric boats

LASAI, the Basque company that will change the way we sail

Posted on July 14, 2026July 17, 2026 by info

LASAI has launched a new generation of electric-solar-powered recreational boats that allow for silent, emission-free sailing with unprecedented range in their segment, targeting a business and tourism market that is accelerating its transition to decarbonization.

LASAI is a Basque company dedicated to the design, manufacture, and marketing of recreational boats powered by electric-solar solutions, headquartered in the Boroa International Maritime Park (Amorebieta). The company was founded in 2021 by the Beraunberri family office, which has ties to the solar energy sector, with the explicit goal of leading the burgeoning maritime electrification business in Europe.

The company combines naval engineering, power electronics, and photovoltaic technology to offer zero-emission boats capable of operating silently and respectfully on seas, lakes, and rivers. Their proposal aligns with increasing European regulatory requirements and the demand for sustainable solutions from marinas, tour operators, and destinations seeking to reduce their environmental footprint.

A more sustainable mobility and leisure model

LASAI proposes “another way to sail”: calm, sensible, and different, prioritizing passenger comfort and integration with the landscape over speed at any cost. Their vessels are fully electric and solar-powered, eliminating noise, fumes, and odors, and allowing passengers to enjoy the surroundings without the acoustic and atmospheric impact associated with combustion engines.

Each LASAI vessel that replaces a traditional ship avoids approximately one ton of CO₂ per year, in addition to reducing metallic particles, NOx, and other unburned hydrocarbons characteristic of conventional propulsion. This emissions reduction translates into a solid argument for ports and commercial operators who need to advance their ESG commitments and tangibly communicate their commitment to sustainability.

LASAI’s design philosophy is based on technology: first, the electric-solar solution is optimized, and then the hull and deck are designed to maximize efficiency and comfort, following a logic similar to that applied by Tesla in the automotive industry. The boats integrate high-capacity batteries and high-efficiency photovoltaic panels that, under certain light conditions, even allow navigation without using stored energy, directly utilizing solar generation.

Its main marine model achieves up to 40 kWh of onboard energy and nearly 700 W of photovoltaic power, with speeds of around 12 knots and an approximate autonomy of ten hours with continuous recharging on sunny days. LASAI has shown ranges exceeding 100 nautical miles at moderate cruising speed, placing these vessels among the benchmarks for range in their electric category.

A Range of Boats for Different Uses

The company has developed several product lines geared towards different usage scenarios, from inland waters to coastal navigation and passenger transport. The GL range is designed for coastal waters, with lengths of 20 and 22 feet that reach speeds of up to 15–18 knots and ranges exceeding 80–100 nautical miles depending on cruising speed.

For lakes, rivers, and canals—a segment where various European regulations already restrict combustion engines—LASAI offers CR models, optimized for calm and quiet navigation, with lower but sufficient installed power for recreational and tourist use. The TR line is geared towards passenger transport, with capacity for up to nine people and photovoltaic solutions of up to 1,500 Wp, designed for tourist services, port transfers, and ecotourism experiences.

From a business perspective, LASAI presents a clear opportunity for nautical operators, hotel chains, resorts, and destinations seeking to differentiate their leisure offerings with zero-emission experiences. Electric-solar vessels reduce the operating costs associated with fossil fuels, simplify propulsion system maintenance, and allow operation in protected areas where navigation with combustion engines is limited or prohibited.

The company is positioning itself as a technology partner for leading decarbonization projects, such as the program promoted by the Basque Government, which anticipates an investment of €36 million and the creation of 190 direct and indirect jobs to develop a new generation of electric vessels designed and manufactured entirely in Euskadi. This industrial dimension makes LASAI a key player both for the maritime value chain and for regions seeking to associate their brand with green innovation.

A Company Born to Decarbonize the Boating Industry: Technological Alliances and European Leadership

As part of its growth strategy, LASAI has signed agreements with technology centers such as TECNALIA to further improve the electric-solar propulsion of recreational boats and consolidate a competitive offering on a European scale. The company’s stated objective is to lead the European market for electric-solar boats up to 12 meters in the medium term, relying on technical reliability, design, and adaptation to new regulations.

LASAI is currently positioned as one of the few manufacturers that market integrated electric-solar solutions for recreational boats, with a presence in Spain and in Northern European markets where environmental awareness and regulatory pressure are driving this type of vessel. The combination of cutting-edge design, silent operation, and zero emissions creates a value proposition aligned with the demands of companies and institutions that want to transform the way they experience the sea without sacrificing the pleasure of sailing.
