The Consortium of Founding Investors of the project, promoted by the Basque Government, has been constituted and includes Iberdrola, CIE Automotive, Enagás, EIT InnoEnergy and CIC energiGUNE.

The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment chaired the presentation ceremony of the Founding Investors Consortium of BASQUEVOLT, a company that aims to become a pioneer in Europe in the manufacture of solid state batteries and aims to take 10% of the market in Europe by 2030. Iberdrola, CIE Automotive, Enagás, EIT InnoEnergy and CIC energiGUNE, together with the Basque Government, have signed their adhesion to the BASQUEVOLT Consortium.
The Minister said that BASQUEVOLT is a unique bet, “because it develops the new generation of batteries in the Basque Country, thanks to the talent and innovation capacity of all our scientific staff and engineers, and guarantees that this innovative technology will be produced in our country. We are going from being the destination of a battery factory to one of the most innovative countries in battery technology. This is a fundamental difference of this project with others in Europe and in the state.”
The presentation of the Consortium comes at a complex time in which geopolitical tensions directly influence the socio-economic aspects of Europe as a whole, so Tapia stressed the need to act against energy dependence by working on different fronts such as increasing generation, efficiency and storage.
With this project Euskadi is going to be a reference at European level. It is clear that batteries are a strategic part of the European clean and digital transition and a key enabling technology for the competitiveness of the automotive sector and that it can offer a solution for manufacturers in different fields.
Tapia ended his speech with the wish “to see BASQUEVOLT soon as a leading member of the European Battery Alliance, and reaching that 10% share of the European market”.
La consejera de Desarrollo Económico, Sostenbilidad y Medio Ambiente ha presidido hoy el acto de presentación del Consorcio de Inversores Fundacionales de BASQUEVOLT, compañía que aspira a convertirse en pionera en Europa en la fabricación de baterías de estado sólido y que pretende hacerse con el 10% del mercado en Europa para el 2030. Iberdrola, CIE Automotive, Enagás, EIT InnoEnergy y CIC energiGUNE, junto con el Gobierno Vasco, han firmado hoy su adhesión al Consorcio de BASQUEVOLT
La consejera afirmó que BASQUEVOLT es una apuesta única, “porque desarrolla la nueva generación de baterías en Euskadi, gracias al talento y a la capacidad de innovación de todo nuestro personal científico y de los ingenieros e ingenieras, y garantiza que esa tecnología innovadora se producirá en nuestro país. Pasamos de ser el destino de una fábrica de baterías, a uno de los países más innovadores en la tecnología de baterías. Esta es una diferencia fundamental de este proyecto con otros en Europa y en el Estado.”
La presentación del Consorcio llega en un momento complejo en el que las tensiones geopolíticas influyen directamente en los aspectos socio-económicos de toda Europa, por lo que Tapia ha destacado la necesidad de actuar ante la dependencia energética trabajando desde diferentes frentes como el aumento de la generación, la eficiencia y el almacenamiento.
Con este proyecto Euskadi va a ser referente a nivel europeo. Es evidente que las baterías son una parte estratégica de la transición limpia y digital europea y una tecnología facilitadora fundamental para la competitividad del sector de la automoción y que puede ofrecer una solución para fabricantes de diferentes campos.”
Tapia ha finalizado su intervención con el deseo de “ver pronto a BASQUEVOLT como miembro destacado de la European Battery Alliance, y alcanzando esa cuota del 10% del mercado europeo”.
