The independent cooperative from Alava, I+Med, has presented an investment project that will reach 20 million euros in three years and which includes the launching of the Biomedical Institute of Intelligent Nanohydrogels (IIBNI).
It will be the first of its kind in the world and will position i+Med in the medium and long term as a world leader in personalized medicine by means of Artificial Intelligence systems directly integrated in nanohydrogels. The new Institute will be located in the Alava Technology Park. Its start-up will create 60 new highly qualified jobs. Work will start this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, according to I+Med’s founding partner, Manu Muñoz.
The launch of this project, disruptive in its conception, represents for I+Med not only an international accolade in terms of scientific reference, but also an important and positive growth in financial terms.
The investment as a whole and the new International Institute consolidates Alava’s position as a pole of economic development of reference for the Basque Country and for the whole world in the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical fields. A leadership that arises from the talent and innovative capacity that leading companies such as I+Med develop in favor of scientific excellence.
The investment is divided into two parts. The first, valued at 8 million euros, will be used for the new, modern infrastructure that will house the International Biomedical Institute of Intelligent Nanohydrogels. It will house the cooperative’s R&D&I area, as well as a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical plant for the launch and distribution of new drugs.
I+Med’s new headquarters will be built on a surface area of 3,600 m2 and will be distributed over two floors. The ground floor will house everything related to administration and logistics; the first floor will house all research and production activities, while the attic, baptized Gure Etxea, The Scientists’ House, will be used as a free, recreational and creative area for the cooperative’s research staff. I+Med has also reserved the adjacent 10,000 m2 plot of land for a possible extension and expansion of the Institute. The second part of the investment, endowed with 12 million euros, will be used to invest in state-of-the-art technology and machinery, as well as to attract and retain highly qualified personnel.
Since its foundation in 2014, this cooperative of scientists has focused its activity on the development of personalized nanomedicine projects in the field of smart nanohydrogels for controlled release of drugs and active substances.
La cooperativa independiente alavesa I+Med ha presentado un proyecto de inversión que alcanzará 20 millones de euros en tres años y en el que se observa el lanzamiento del Instituto Biomédico de Nanohidrogeles Inteligentes (IIBNI).
Será el primero de estas características en el mundo y situará a i+Med a medio y largo plazo como líder mundial en medicina personalizada mediante sistemas de Inteligencia Artificial integrados directamente en nanohidrogeles. El nuevo Instituto estará ubicado en el Parque Tecnológico de Álava. Su puesta en marcha creará 60 nuevos empleos de alta cualificación. La obra se iniciará este año y se prevé su conclusión para finales de 2024, según informa el socio fundador de I+Med, Manu Muñoz.
El lanzamiento de este proyecto, disruptivo en su concepción, supone para I+Med no solo un espaldarazo internacional en términos de referencia científica sino, un importante y positivo crecimiento en términos financieros.
La inversión en su conjunto y el nuevo Instituto Internacional, consolida la posición de Álava como polo de desarrollo económico de referencia para Euskadi y para el mundo entero en los campos Farmacéutico y Biomédico. Un liderazgo que surge a partir del talento y la capacidad innovadora que empresas punteras como I+Med desarrollan en favor de la excelencia científica.
La inversión está dividida en dos partes. La primera, valorada en 8 millones de euros, se destinará a la nueva y moderna infraestructura que albergará al Instituto Internacional Biomédico de Nanohidrogeles Inteligentes. En su interior contemplará el área de I+D+i de la cooperativa, así como una planta farmacéutica vanguardista para el lanzamiento y distribución de nuevos medicamentos.
El nuevo cuartel general de I+Med se construirá sobre una superficie de 3.600 m2 y estará distribuido en dos plantas. La cota cero acogerá todo lo concerniente a administración y logística; en la primera se alojará toda la actividad investigadora y de producción, mientras que el ático, bautizado como Gure Etxea, La casa de los Científicos, se destinará a la zona libre, lúdica y creativa del personal investigador de la cooperativa.
I+Med ha reservado también la parcela anexa con 10.000 m2 para una posible ampliación y expansión del Instituto. La segunda parte de la inversión, dotada con 12 millones de euros, tendrá como fin la apuesta por tecnología y maquinaria de última generación, así como en la atracción y retención de personal de alta cualificación.
Desde su fundación en 2014, esta cooperativa de científicos ha centrado su actividad en el desarrollo de proyectos de nanomedicina personalizada en el campo de los nanohidrogeles inteligentes de liberación controlada de fármacos y sustancias activas.
