Ingeteam’s latest strategic plan envisages a 44% increase in turnover and the creation of 1,000 jobs

In the midst of one of the biggest energy crises in living memory, the Basque technology company Ingeteam, based in Zamudio and celebrating half a century of history this year, has just presented its Strategic Plan 2022-2024. An ambitious proposal with which it aspires to take the leap to “another dimension” to become a leader in sustainable electrification. It envisages, among other milestones, increasing its turnover to 1,000 million euros and creating a thousand jobs. Undoubtedly ambitious indicators for one of the key players in the energy transition in the Basque Country. A group aimed at developing “a lot of wind, solar and hydro in Europe”, says Adolfo Rebollo, CEO of the company, which has an internationalised structure present in 24 countries on five continents, enabling it to export 80% of its production. It currently employs more than 4,000 people.

They have recently presented the company’s Strategic Plan for the next two years. An ambitious plan that envisages a 44% growth in turnover to reach one billion euros in the next three years and the recruitment of one thousand jobs. In which sectors do you want to grow?

Our goal is to create a more sustainable world, which is why in this new strategic cycle we want to consolidate our position as leaders in renewable generation (wind, solar and hydroelectric), in storage, in the intelligent and robust transport and distribution network, and in efficient and clean consumption of electrical energy: electric vehicle chargers, converters and motors for trains, for the marine, steel and mining industries, water, etc. In addition, we are going to focus geographically on expanding our market share in our main markets: Europe, North America, Australia, Brazil, India and increasingly China through the marine sector.

Is the ambition of this Strategic Plan motivated by this kind of boom in favour of renewables that seems to exist at the moment, and which the war has accelerated in order to reduce energy dependence, especially on Russian gas?

We have been involved in renewables and working on converters for efficient electricity consumption since 1996, and we have developed a rigorously worked plan based on our accumulated experience and knowledge. Although the geopolitical situation has changed in recent weeks, our approach remains unchanged and we will be a key player in the challenge of electrifying society.

This Plan, which has just been launched, also envisages investments worth 210 million euros. Will they affect the Basque Country? How and where?

Ingeteam plans to invest a total of 210 million euros over the next three years, of which 140 million will go to R&D and 70 million to investment in new facilities and improvements to existing ones. Specifically, investment will be made in two self-consumption photovoltaic plants for our plants in Beasain (Gipuzkoa) and Sesma (Navarra). The former produces marine engines and generators (those that generate electricity from mechanical energy) for wind, marine, hydraulic and stationary power plants, as well as pumps. All of them under the Indar brand. The latter manufactures solar inverters, i.e. those that make it possible to generate electricity that can be fed into the grid from solar panels. It also manufactures inverters for charging and discharging batteries for storage projects, chargers for electric vehicles, and converters for wind turbines, which enable wind turbines to generate electricity that can be fed into the grid. It will also carry out a plant expansion to accommodate growth in these areas.
