Lantek, world leader in industrial software for the control and management of machines and factories in the metal sector, is a clear example of innovation. It dedicates 20% of its business, with an investment of 4.1 million euros, to R&D, an area to which nearly 70 of its 270 employees are dedicated exclusively. The company has received a grant from the SPRI Group‘s industrial cybersecurity program.

The company was founded in 1986 with technology as one of its pillars. Another axis is internationalization, where it started five years later in France and in 1996 in Germany, “something very unusual at that time for an industrial software company,” says Alberto López de Biñaspre, CEO of the company. “From being an organization focused on the development, marketing and integration of CAD/CAM software solutions specialized in cutting sheet metal, tubes and profiles, Lantek has been able to adapt and evolve, becoming one of the pioneering firms in driving the digital transformation of the metal sector through the creation and development of advanced manufacturing solutions.”

The sectors for which it works include all developments in the metal sector, from automotive and aeronautics to shipbuilding and shipyards, wind and solar energy, boiler-making, elevators, household appliances, agricultural machinery, buses and trucks, and medical and surgical equipment. The company’s solutions support more than 1,200 different machine tool models from more than 450 manufacturers.

The suite of products it offers is a “customized solution for the industrial world of sheet metal, tube and profile metal cutting.” It gets performance from the data it collects, allowing for material utilization, energy savings or real-time decision making.

López de Biñaspre alludes to the fact that they are the customers’ partner in this digital transformation process. “We accompany them with the advantage that we know both the machine and the latest technologies and we have that global vision that internationalization gives us, to check what works or not. We are able to identify what the customer really needs and the next step.” This service of controlling the machines in a factory, the production process and offering a global solution to the business based on data is unique.

The workforce is now made up of more than 270 people, half of them at its headquarters in the Álava Technology Park and the Iberdrola tower in Bilbao. In addition to its 20 offices in 14 countries, it has a “very global positioning with a network of distributors and partners where we do not have offices”. Exports account for 86% of its turnover, which reached 20.1 million last year. For this year, it expects business to grow by 30%.

The aid for industrial cybersecurity granted by the SPRI Group has been directed to diagnosis and improvement actions, a project under development. “It is something that as a technology company we must continue to do in search of continuous improvement in the field of cybersecurity.” López de Biñaspre points to inorganic growth. “We don’t rule out acquisitions as long as they are strategic.” And, undoubtedly, the increase in R&D&I investment “with grants such as those from the SPRI Group.”
