Basque Science And Technologies Plan

“Science, Technology and Innovation Basque Plan seeks to turn Euskadi into a European benchmark”

Posted on May 6, 2023 by info

The Basque Country is one of the most advanced territories in Europe, even though it is a small region, the possibilities for further growth are immense. Furthermore, the targets set in the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan 2030 (PCTI 2030) will place the Basque Country as one of the most advanced regions of the continent in research and development.

Science, technology and R&D are constantly developing, concentrating their efforts on energy and climate change, advanced technology-based industry and digitalization; and finally, social and healthcare transition. A good example of the cooperation between companies and universities is the dual training and practice offered by the University of Mondragon, so that students are prepared in the framework of the business world.

It is also worth highlighting the implementation of clean energy projects, R&D solutions and personalized health, together with the promotion and support of local talent, which must be retained in the region in order to improve the competitiveness of Basque companies in international markets.

The PCTI Euskadi 2030 aims to improve the standard of living and the employment quality through a policy of innovation, based on the pillars of scientific excellence, technological and industrial leadership and open innovation.

To achieve these targets, four goals have been established, which will be measured through the use of specific indicators. The first goal establishes the maximization of the Basque R&D&I direction. The second establishes the promotion of R&D&I activity in companies, focusing on SMEs. Thirdly, the internationalization of Basque R&D&I must be boosted. Finally, to promote research talent, especially among women.

In a nutshell, PCTI 2030 is a long-term plan designed to contribute to the consolidation of the Basque Country as an international benchmark in R&D&I and to have a positive impact on economic growth, the creation of quality employment and social welfare in the region.
