Posted on January 17, 2023January 28, 2023 by info

Euskadi and nippon country with new multi-sector projects that will be developed throughout this year

Ajuria Enea (Headquarters of the Basque Government). The Lehendakari (Basque President) and the Ambassador of Japan presented Euskadi Japan 2023, an initiative that seeks to strengthen collaboration and promote the Basque Country in Japan.

The Basque Country and Japan are going to intensify their relations this year with the launch of the Euskadi Japan 2023 initiative, whose objective is to strengthen the already close collaboration they maintain and generate new projects in the institutional, business, cultural, gastronomic and tourist spheres.

The program has been presented this morning by the Basque Prime Minister Iñigo Urkullu and the new Japanese Ambassador Takahiro Nakamae, in the meeting that both held at the Ajuria Enea Palace.

After recalling the priority that Japan holds in the Euskadi Basque Country 2025 Strategy and the newly opened Business and Commercial Office of the Basque Internationalization Agency in Tokyo, the Lehendakari mentioned some of the more than 40 initiatives that will take place throughout this year.

Thus, at the institutional level, it is planned the visit of the Governors of the Fukushima or Mie Prefectures with whom the Basque Country has signed separate Memorandums of Understanding.

In the cultural sphere, new activities such as exhibitions and film series will be represented both in the Basque Country and Japan with already established activities such as the Lecturers in Euskara and Basque Culture that are taught at the Tokyo University of Foreign Affairs.

In the area of finances, the Basque Government is planning an institutional visit to meet investors with the objective of presenting the “Sustainable Euskadi Bond” program.

In the field of innovation, a visit by representatives of various Japanese prefectures to the Basque Country is planned in order to identify areas of collaboration in the automotive industry, hydrogen and artificial intelligence.

In the area of economic development, direct and inverse missions of Basque and Japanese companies are being organized this year. The goal is to identify common interests and the correct development of projects; as well as, organizing business conferences in Euskadi and Japan; and consolidate the Caprice Project with direct missions in Osaka and Tokyo.

In addition, from October 13 to 20, the Basque Week will be held in Tokyo, which will serve to promote the Basque Country among the Japanese public through cultural and gastronomic activities.

“Our objective is to continue consolidating and feeding existing projects, giving support to all those Basque actors with interests in Japan. Also, to bring the Basque Country closer to Japanese society and in the same way Japan and its culture to the Basque Country”, -the Lehendakari said-, while thanking the new ambassador for his visit and his support for these initiatives.
