With the active participation of 2,300 members of the industrial and technological ecosystem, Basque Open Industry has brought together the most cutting-edge Basque industry at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC!) as part of the European SME Week (SME Week 2023). 

This event took place on November 13 and 14, and was opened by the ‘Lehendakari, the President of the Basque Government.  Iñigo Urkullu Renteria emphasised the importance of the industrial fabric of the Basque Country, calling it “a broad and diversified industrial fabric, with a great capacity for resilience.” “The Basque Country is an innovative territory,” the ‘Lehendakari’ indicated, “a country that is consolidating its position in the group of “strong innovators” along with countries such as Germany, Austria, and France, surpassing the European average; Additionally, he emphasised that the Basque Country can address future challenges “in an effective manner through the public-private collaboration model” because of its shared industrial and economic strategy.

Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability, and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, emphasised these concepts by highlighting the advancements made by the Basque industry in the last three years, since the 2020–2024 Industry and Internationalisation Plan was introduced, within the framework of “accelerating technological-digital, energy-climatic, and demographic–social transformations.”

In this context, Ms. Tapia emphasised the Department’s dedication to sustainability and decarbonization, saying that by incorporating environmental standards “into all sectoral policies as a competitive factor and an opportunity to create value,” this has “provided an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of the productive structure.”

Tom TerBush, Vice President of Technical Services and Members of EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) and President of EPRI International, delivered a keynote address among the roughly thirty presentations that took place during the event. He explained in detail how decarbonization offers a chance to create a new industry. The most recent developments in the fields of talent, artificial intelligence, industrial cybersecurity, digital transformation, and energy and environmental transition have been discussed by global experts at various round tables and colloquiums.

Thanks to the APP “Networking Land,” which SPRI enabled, the Basque Open Industry has made possible nearly 800 business meetings, appointments, and demonstrations between companies. The central theme of this event, which took place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), was the interconnection of the Basque industrial ecosystem in areas like internationalisation and the application of R&D. The ‘Matching’ tool has made it easier to arrange for quick and flexible appointments and demonstrations. Meeting agendas with start-ups that specialise in Industry 4.0 transformative projects, the newest AI, cybersecurity, software, connectivity and IoT, advanced sensorics, big data, immersive technologies, robotics and electronics, computing, additive manufacturing, artificial vision, and edge computing, among other areas, could be created in this way.

Similar to this, during meetings with the managers of the BasqueTrade & Investment Foreign Network offices of the SPRI Group in 23 markets, the companies were able to compare the potential applications of technologies from the Research Centres to their individual business projects and learn about the prospects and possibilities for international expansion of their business activities.

In this space, the ‘Euskrania-UkraniaSOS‘ initiative has participated by providing information on the opportunities that the Reconstruction of Ukraine with the support of the European Union has for Basque companies, especially those related to different sectors such as Construction, Machinery, Energy, Pharmaceuticals, Agribusiness, Automotive, Transport, Logistics or Digital Technologies, among others.

Euskrania.com is an initiative set up by the Basque organisations ‘NegoBide Círculo Empresarial‘ and the ‘Fundación Instituto Europa de los Pueblos’, which brings together companies and professionals from the Basque Country, Ukraine and other Slavic countries with the aim of establishing alliances for social and economic development.

This event has served to showcase the extensive Basque industrial and technological ecosystem on an international level during the European SME Week 2023. 2,300 professionals belonging to Basque companies and technology centres also took advantage of these two days to find business opportunities and improve their competitiveness; around one hundred exhibiting firms showed their technological capabilities at this event.

Basque Open Industry proyecta el ecosistema tecnológico e industrial a Europa

‘Euskadi – Basque Country’ muestra su fortaleza industrial y el talento de sus startups en Inteligencia Artificial, Ciberseguridad, Energía, Maquinaria Avanzada, Microelectrónica y otras tecnologías.

En el marco de la Semana Europea de la Pyme (SME Week 2023), Basque Open Industry ha reunido en ‘Bilbao Exhibition Center – BEC!’ a la industria vasca más avanzada con la participación activa de 2.300 representantes del ecosistema industrial y tecnológico.  

El ‘Lehendakari’, presidente del Gobierno Vasco, inauguró este evento que se ha celebrado durante los días 13 y 14 de noviembre; Iñigo Urkullu Renteria ha puesto en valor el tejido industrial del País Vasco, “un tejido industrial amplio y diversificado, con gran capacidad de resiliencia”. El ‘Lehendakari’ ha asegurado que “Euskadi es un territorio innovador, un país que se afianza en el grupo de “Innovadores fuertes” junto a países como Alemania, Austria o Francia, superando la media europea; ha destacado, además que Euskadi cuenta con una estrategia industrial y económica compartida que permite responder a los desafíos del futuro “de manera eficaz desde el modelo de colaboración público-privada”.

Arantxa Tapia, ministra de Desarrollo Económico, Sostenibilidad y Medio Ambiente, ha ahondado en estas ideas recordando también los avances realizados por la industria vasca durante los últimos tres años, desde la puesta en marcha del Plan de Industria e Internacionalización 2020-2024 en un contexto de “aceleración de las transformaciones tecnológico-digital, energético-climática y demográfico-social”.

En este sentido, la Sra. Tapia ha remarcado la apuesta del Departamento por la sostenibilidad y la descarbonización, que según ha afirmado, “ha supuesto una oportunidad para fortalecer la competitividad de la estructura productiva” integrando los criterios medioambientales “en todas las políticas sectoriales como un factor competitivo y de oportunidad para crear valor”. 

Entre la treintena de ponencias del evento, ha destacado la de Tom TerBush, vicepresidente de Servicios Técnicos y Miembros de EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) y presidente de EPRI International. En su conferencia ha ofrecido detalles sobre cómo la descarbonización supone una oportunidad para generar una nueva industria. Profesionales internacionales en diferentes mesas redondas y coloquios, han dado a conocer las últimas tendencias sobre Talento, Inteligencia Artificial, Ciberseguridad Industrial, Transición Digital y Transición Energética y Medioambiental.

El Basque Open Industry ha posibilitado cerca de 800 reuniones de trabajo, citas y demostraciones entre empresas gracias a la APP ‘Networking Land’ habilitada por SPRI. Esta interconexión entre el ecosistema industrial vasco en materias como internacionalización y aplicación de la I+D ha sido una de las piezas centrales de este evento celebrado en el Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC). La herramienta de ‘matching’ ha facilitado una logística rápida y ágil de citas y demostraciones personalizadas. De esta forma, se han podido crear agendas de reuniones con startups especializadas en proyectos transformadores de la Industria 4.0, últimas tecnologías y soluciones en IA, Ciberseguridad, Software, Conectividad e IoT, Sensórica avanzada, BigData, Tecnologías Inmersivas, Robótica y electrónica, Computing, Manufactura Aditiva, Visión Artificial o Edge Computing, entre otras.

De igual manera, las empresas han podido contrastar las posibilidades de aplicación de tecnologías de los Centros de Investigación a sus respectivos proyectos empresariales, así como conocer las posibilidades y oportunidades de expansión internacional de sus actividades empresariales en las reuniones mantenidas con las personas responsables de las oficinas de la Red Exterior BasqueTrade & Investment del Grupo SPRI en 23 mercados.

En este espacio, la iniciativa ‘Euskrania-UkraniaSOS‘ ha participado facilitando información sobre las oportunidades que la Reconstrucción de Ucrania con el apoyo de la Unión Europea tiene para las empresas vascas, en especial aquellas relacionadas con diferentes sectores como Construcción, Maquinaria, Energía, Farmacéutico, Agribusiness, Automoción, Transporte, Logística o Tecnologías Digitales, entre otros.

Euskrania.com es una iniciativa puesta en marcha por la organización vasca ‘NegoBide Círculo Empresarial‘ y la ‘Fundación Instituto Europa de los Pueblos‘, que reúne a empresas y profesionales del País Vasco, Ucrania y otros países del entorno eslavo con el objetivo de establecer alianzas para el desarrollo social y económico.
