The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, and the Minister-President of Flanders, Jan Jambon, have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, and the Minister-President of Flanders, Jan Jambon, held a meeting this morning in which they reviewed the different areas of cooperation that Euskadi and Flanders have traditionally maintained. After the meeting, both presidents have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which comes to reinforce the Collaboration Agreement they signed in 2015. The meeting has served to take stock of the areas in which both territories are already collaborating and explore new areas of work.
Also on the table was the commitment of Euskadi and Flanders -which have their own competences and legislative capacity- to make their voices heard in the European institutions. The meeting was followed by the signing of a new collaboration agreement (MoU), which was attended by a Flemish delegation that is participating these days in a Learning Tour or working visit, organized by the Etxepare Institute.
In the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Euskadi and Flanders declare their intention to deepen bilateral relations to cooperate in different areas of common interest. Thus, the document sets out the 15 areas on which the collaboration between the two governments will initially focus. These include: digitalization; the environment (especially in relation to the circular economy, climate change and marine research); transport (especially in relation to ports, logistics development, mobility and public works); social policies; gender equality; tourism; cultural and creative industries; health; and employment and public employment services.
El Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu y el Ministro-Presidente de Flandes, Jan Jambon, han mantenido esta mañana un encuentro en el que han repasado los distintos ámbitos de cooperación que mantienen tradicionalmente Euskadi y Flandes. Tras el encuentro, ambos presidentes han firmado un nuevo Memorando de Entendimiento (MoU), que viene a reforzar el Acuerdo de Colaboración que firmaron en 2015. El encuentro ha servido para hacer balance de las áreas en las que ambos territorios ya vienen colaborando y explorar nuevas áreas de trabajo.
Asimismo, sobre la mesa ha estado presente la apuesta de Euskadi y Flandes – que cuentan con competencias propias y capacidad legislativa- por hacer oír su voz en las instituciones europeas. A la reunión ha seguido la firma de un nuevo acuerdo de colaboración (MoU) que ha contado con la presencia de una delegación flamenca que participa estos días en un Learning Tour o visita de trabajo, organizado por el Instituto Etxepare.
En el Memorando de Entendimiento (MoU), Euskadi y Flandes declaran su intención de profundizar las relaciones bilaterales para cooperar en diferentes ámbitos de interés común. Así, el documento recoge las 15 áreas en las que se va a centrar, inicialmente, la colaboración entre ambos gobiernos. Entre ellas: la digitalización; el Medio Ambiente (en especial lo referente a la economía circular, el cambio climático y la investigación marina); los transportes (sobre todo lo relativo a los puertos, desarrollo de logística, movilidad y obras públicas); las políticas sociales; la igualdad de género; el turismo; las Industrias Culturales y Creativas; la salud; y el empleo y Servicios Públicos de Empleo.
