Herdit: present on high-speed trains around the world / presente en los trenes de alta velocidad de todo el mundo

Posted on October 8, 2021October 8, 2021 by info

The Basque company, a world reference in medium and fine boilermaking, manufactures parts for the railway sector such as electrical cabinets, air conditioning ceilings and vehicle cabins. It is now in a process of growth, with the expansion of its facilities and a 20-30% increase in its workforce.

Every time you travel on a high-speed train around the world, the company Herdit from Alava accompanies you on that journey, as it has manufactured several of its parts. The Basque firm is a world reference in medium and fine boilermaking and a specialist in TIG MIG MAG welding, laser cutting, punching and bending and finishing. “From a sheet metal or a tube, we are capable of transforming it, through cutting, bending and welding, into an electrical cabinet, an air conditioning ceiling or even a train cabin,” acknowledges Marta Barredo Unamunzaga, CEO of Herdit.

The company located in Aranguiz, on the outskirts of Vitoria-Gasteiz, focuses its production on the railway sector, and has become a benchmark with its TIG MIG MAG welding, but its activity is also very present in wind power, photovoltaic and automotive. “Renewable energies and sustainable mobility are becoming increasingly important in our diversification plan,” says Marta Barredo.

With more than 5,000 different references in production, the company is versatile and dynamic to efficiently meet the demand and needs of its customers, “multinational and multisectoral, leading companies in each of the sectors,” explains Herdit’s CEO. The company from Alava adapts to the requirements of its customers and manufactures parts for booming products such as electric buses or electric fuel cells.

“We have manufactured components for all the high-speed trains in the world and every subway or streetcar in Europe has some of our parts,” emphasizes Marta Barredo. In addition, they continue to seek new markets and new opportunities. “Thanks to our new facilities, with 6,000 square meters totally open-plan, we want to enter markets that require larger parts,” says the CEO.

Continuous innovation is the pillar on which Herdit is based. “Markets are changing, new technologies are advancing at a dizzying pace and, for this reason, ancillary companies have to provide that point of innovation to be chosen as traveling companions,” he stresses.

Almost half a century of life

Founded in 1973 as a welding workshop, with just a dozen workers, over the years it has incorporated cutting and bending into its production process. Currently, with a workforce of more than a hundred employees, the company is in the process of its fourth expansion, with which it will have more than 20,000 square meters of facilities and will be operational from the end of this year 2021. “With the new expansion, we expect to increase the workforce by 20-30%,” he says.

Herdit
