The Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu has traveled to Stuttgart to meet with the top managers of the automotive company and learn in situ about the business projects related to electric vehicles and sustainability.
El Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu ha viajado a Stuttgart para reunirse con los máximos responsables de la empresa automovilística y conocer in situ los proyectos empresariales relacionados con el vehículo eléctrico y la sostenibilidad.
Early in the morning, the Lehendakari met with the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Arantza Tapia, the General Secretary of External Action, Marian Elorza, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mikel Amundarain, and the General Director of Basque Trade & Investment, Ainhoa Ondarzabal, with the heads of the Mercedes VANS project.
Mathias Geisen, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Vans, has been in charge of presenting to the Lehendakari and the rest of the team the details of the current situation of the company as well as its main challenges for the future. In particular, he shared the characteristics of Mercedes’ commitment to vehicle electrification and its vision for the future of the automotive sector.
On behalf of the German company, the meeting was attended by the Vice President of Operations, Ingo Ettischer, the Head of Development, Andreas Zygan, the Head of Sales, Klaus Rehkluger, and the Director of the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant, Emilio Titos.
In subsequent statements to the media, the Lehendakari assured that they had renewed their commitment to collaboration and dialogue and affirmed that the objective of the Basque Government is to guarantee the investments and future projects of Mercedes-Benz in the Basque Country.
Likewise, the Lehendakari told the press that boosting the industry and specifically the automotive sector is a priority for the Basque institutions as a whole. “We are going to continue investing in the improvement of the automotive industrial ecosystem”.

Desde primera hora del día, el Lehendakari se ha reunido junto a la Consejera de Desarrollo Económico, Sostenibilidad y Medio Ambiente, Arantza Tapia, la Secretaria General de Acción Exterior, Marian Elorza, el Viceconsejero de Industria, Mikel Amundarain, y la Directora General de Basque Trade & Investment, Ainhoa Ondarzabal, con los y las resposanbles del proyecto de Mercedes VANS.
Mathias Geisen, CEO de Mercedes-Benz Vans, ha sido el encargardo de presentar al Lehendakari y al resto del equipo los detalles de la situación actual de la empresa así como sus principales retos de futuro. En concreto, ha compartido las características de la apuesta de Mercedes por la electrificación del vehículo y su visión de futuro para el sector del automóvil.
Por parte de la empresa alemana, han participado en la reunión, el Vicepresidente de Operaciones, Ingo Ettischer, el Responsable de Desarrollo, Andreas Zygan, el Responsable de Ventas, Klaus Rehkluger, y el Director de la planta de Vitoria-Gasteiz, Emilio Titos.
En declaraciones posteriores ante los medios de comunicación, el Lehendakari ha asegurado que han renovado el compromiso de colaboración y diálogo y ha afirmado que el objetivo del Gobierno Vasco es garantizar las inversiones y proyectos de futuro de Mercedes-Benz en Euskadi.
Asimismo, el Lehendakari ha trasladado a la prensa que impulsar la industria y en concreto el sector del automovil constituye una prioridad para el conjunto de las instituciones vascas. “Vamos a seguir inviertiendo en la mejora del ecosistema industrial de la automoción”.
