The first digital meeting of ‘HanHemen‘ and the Global Basque Community was held on 5 July, with the aim of strengthening it and discussing its birth and development.
El pasado 5 de julio se celebró el primer encuentro digital de ‘HanHemen‘ y la Comunidad Vasca Global, con el propósito de reforzarla y deliberar sobre su nacimiento y desarrollo.
The event was organised by the HanHemen team, from Aretxabaleta (‘hemen’, Here in Basque) to the whole world (‘han’, There), an initiative that was supported by the Basque Government’s General Secretariat for Action Abroad.
The aim of the meeting was to share the results of the ‘active listening exercise’ aimed at the people who form the Basque Diaspora, as well as to know the situation and needs of the Global Basque Community and, from now on, to develop the ‘HanHemen’ initiative and technological platform in collaboration. This diaspora model allows us to look to the future and combine the experience of the Euskal Etxeak (Basque centres all over the world) with the new model of global and digital citizenship.
The day began at 18:00 hours in the Basque Country and people from all over the world were connected to share different experiences and experiences: USA, Argentina, UK, Germany, Uruguay or Singapore, among other countries.
Some of the results of this ‘active listening’ are the following: 30% of the participants consider themselves ‘discouraged’ or not participating; 80% are clearly in favour of continuing to maintain links with the Basque geographies; 70% think that the support of the Basque Government could be improved; fortunately, people from the diaspora are connecting abroad…
The social innovation platform ‘HanHemen’ comes to respond to all this and adapt to the needs of this Community. Its main features, among others, will be its (1) usability and intuitiveness, (2) dynamism and interaction, (3) data privacy, (4) relationships and connectivity, and (5) data sovereignty and adaptation to decentralised networks.

El evento fue organizado por el equipo de HanHemen, desde Aretxabaleta (‘hemen’, Aquí en euskera) a todo el mundo (‘han’, Allá), una iniciativa que contó con el impulso de la Secretaría General de Acción en el Exterior del Gobierno Vasco.
El objetivo del encuentro fue compartir los resultados del ‘ejercicio de escucha activa’ dirigida a las personas que forman la diáspora vasca, así como conocer la situación y necesidades de la Comunidad Vasca Global y, a partir de ahora desarrollar la iniciativa y plataforma tecnológica ‘HanHemen’ en colaboración. Este modelo de diáspora permite mirar al futuro y compaginar la experiencia de las Euskal Etxeak (centros vascos repartidos por todo el planeta), con el nuevo modelo de la ciudadanía global y digital.
La jornada comenzó a las 18:00 horas del País Vasco y se conectaron personas de todo el mundo para compartir diferentes experiencias y vivencias: EEUU, Argentina, Reino Unido, Alemania, Uruguay o Singapore, entre otros países.
Alguno de los resultados que llaman la atención sobre esta ‘escucha activa’ son los siguientes: un 30% de los participantes se entiende ‘descolocado’ o no partícipe; el 80% se muestra claramente a favor de seguir manteniendo vínculos con las geografías vascas; el 70% opina que el apoyo del Gobierno Vasco podría mejorarse; afortunadamente, las personas de la diáspora se relacionan en el extranjero…
La plataforma de innovación social ‘HanHemen’ viene a dar respuesta a todo ello y adaptarse a las necesidades de esta Comunidad. Sus principales características, entre otras, serán su (1) usabilidad e intuitividad, (2) dinamismo e interacción, (3) privacidad de datos, (4) relaciones y conectividad, y (5) soberanía de datos y adaptación a redes descentralizadas.
