Startups will be able to register until February 3 in two BIND 4.0 programs: GovTech, the first pilot initiative with the Public Administration, and the second edition of SME Connection.

Posted on January 26, 2023April 19, 2023 by BP

Govtech poses 6 institutional challenges to develop projects in collaboration with public administrations in the Basque Country, such as EJIE, SPRI, EVE, Ihobe, Parke and Hazi. The 28 SME Connection SMEs launch 11 challenges in the areas of machine tools, the environment, food, design and equipment, and construction.

The open innovation platform, BIND 4.0, opens two new calls for startups, aimed at developing new innovation projects in collaboration with industrial SMEs, in the case of BIND 4.0 SME Connection, and for the first time with Public Administrations, with the launch of the new BIND 4.0 GovTech pilot initiative. Both registration periods will remain open until February 3 and emerging companies with disruptive technological solutions capable of responding to the different challenges posed by both initiatives will be able to register.

The objective of these two initiatives, created by the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment through the SPRI Group and its Up!Euskadi platform, is the same: to accelerate digitization both in industrial SMEs and in Public Administrations, through collaboration with startups. And, at the same time, make it easier for startups to access the market and their inclusion in the Basque Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem.

On the one hand, BIND 4.0 SME Connection begins its second edition, which this year has opened to the 16 ODCs (Organizations that promote clusters) in the Basque Country, and has the participation of 28 industrial SMEs, belonging to Aclima clusters and business associations , Uptek, Food, Habic, Eraikune and Adegi. This program seeks innovative startups capable of responding, with the application of new technologies, to the 11 new challenges posed by the ODCs in the areas of machine tools, the environment, food, design and equipment, and construction. In the last edition, more than 80 startups with 131 projects applied to participate in the program.

In this edition, each ODC and association launches challenges related to the demands of their sector. Specifically, Aclima, the environmental cluster, raises the need to optimize the capture and improve the management of the extracted data. For its part, Adegi, the association of Gipuzkoa companies, also poses two challenges focused on extracting, storing and monitoring data from industrial equipment and providing intelligence to machines. Technologies such as Big Data, IA, IoT, sensors, among others, can be applied in all of them. In another line is Eraikune, the construction cluster, where the creation of a digital twin and the optimization and analysis of data are its main axes.

The efficient management of stocks, the automation of demand forecasts and the improvement of product traceability are the main demands of Basque Food Food, the food and drink cluster. For its part, the Uptek Association – AFM, the advanced manufacturing cluster, focuses on the cybersecurity of its machines and assets, through Artificial Intelligence and Habic, the equipment, furniture and design cluster, is committed to cybersecurity to improve the digital protection of smart devices.

BIND 4.0 GovTech celebrates its first edition this year and has the participation of 6 Public Societies with different challenges. EJIE, the Basque Government’s technology management body, wants to facilitate the use of Basque in spoken and written channels with the use of new technologies. For its part, SPRI, the Basque business development agency, needs solutions to optimize internal operations in processes and procedures. Specifically, the Euskadi Network of Technology Parks wants to optimize the energy consumption of its infrastructures through Big Data, automatic learning or artificial intelligence. On the other hand, Ihobe, a public environmental management company, focuses on obtaining information on the behavior of clients of the Ekoetxea network of environmental centers. Hazi, the foundation for the rural and coastal development of the Basque Country, is based on knowing better the needs of its companies to improve their competitiveness. And finally, EVE, the Basque Energy Entity, needs to obtain and analyze valuable information on mobility in the Basque Country.

Both programs have multiple benefits both for startups and for participating SMEs and public companies. On the one hand, startups can develop and market a project in a real environment, they have the opportunity to apply their technology to the needs of an SME and public administration, have the reference and experience of consolidated clients in the sector, agile development of the project and achieve image and brand positioning of your startup. For their part, SMEs and public companies have direct access to innovative talent and can develop new internal capacities to improve their competitiveness and the service provided to companies and citizens of the Basque Country in different areas.

In order to participate, startups must meet the following requirements:

  • Being developers of new technologies applied to the industrial sector.
  • Have a product or service that can be seen, tested, tested, or even already available on the market.
  • Not be more than 8 years old.
  • Use new technologies to improve processes

Startups can register until February 3 in both programs through the program website www.bind40.com
