Dream Painter is an interactive robotic installation that turns the audience’s dreams into a collective painting.

Dream Painter consists of multiple parts: interaction station, painting robot, and creative coding that transforms a spoken word to art on the canvas. The artwork poses several important questions, like: can machine understand our unconscious? What happens if algorithms will be able to make sense of our dreams, understand us better than we do? Is there a limit of trust when it comes to the relationship between humanity and technology?
Dream painteris a work by Varvara & Marproduced by Medialab Tabakalera and Tekniker that aims to address the issue of human-robot trust from a creative point of view. This new creation is an installation in which visitors tell their dreams to a device and a robotic arm, after receiving the information provided by the users, they understand it and paint a mural based on their interpretation of dreams. Tekniker, the main technological research center specialized in Advanced Manufacturing technologies in the Basque Country, showed interest in analyzing the emotional interaction between humans and robots to acquire new knowledge in its work on collaborative robotics, implement innovation processes and bring its work closer together. From there, the artists Mar & Varvara set out to work on an installation to work on these themes.
Dream Painter consta de varias partes: estación de interacción, robot pintor y codificación creativa que transforma una palabra hablada en arte sobre el lienzo. La obra plantea varias preguntas importantes, como: ¿pueden las máquinas entender nuestro inconsciente? ¿Qué pasa si los algoritmos son capaces de dar sentido a nuestros sueños, de entendernos mejor que nosotros? ¿Existe un límite de confianza en la relación entre la humanidad y la tecnología?
Dream painter es una obra de Varvara & Mar producida por Medialab Tabakalera y Tekniker que pretende abordar el tema de la confianza humano-robot desde un punto de vista creativo. Esta nueva creación es una instalación en la que los visitantes cuentan sus sueños a un dispositivo y un brazo robótico, tras recibir la información proporcionada por los usuarios, la entienden y pintan un mural basado en su interpretación de los sueños. Tekniker, el principal centro de investigación tecnológica especializado en tecnologías de Fabricación Avanzada del País Vasco, mostró su interés por analizar la interacción emocional entre humanos y robots para adquirir nuevos conocimientos en su trabajo sobre robótica colaborativa, implementar procesos de innovación y acercar su trabajo. A partir de ahí, los artistas Mar & Varvara se pusieron a trabajar en una instalación para trabajar estos temas.
